Recent Winbox versions aggressively remind users to update to the latest release. In secure environments where change control is strict, administrators prefer a version that stays unchanged. Winbox 3.14 does not nag about updates.

RouterOS by default listens for Winbox connections on TCP port 8291. Change this default port under /ip service to reduce automated brute-force attacks.
